A wedding reception is held after the wedding ceremony and not before it. When the wedding is held it is the determining factor of the wedding party. The party is commonly held within the same date and a few hours after the wedding since the guests are still around. Caterers, hotels and restaurants will want to know the exact date of your wedding and its time so that arrangements can be made.
There are weddings that take place in mornings. After the morning wedding ceremony guests go to the wedding party venue and eat brunch or a continental breakfast. In this set up, guests, will eat bread, fruits, omelets, juice and cereal to help guests jump start the day. Parties such as these are held in restaurants, hotels or the bride's house.
Some weddings are celebrated near noon time. This is perfect for an afternoon party. Guests get to eat a full lunch and enjoy the rest of the day by staying in the party or doing other business, it gives guests enough time within the day to do other things. A lunch party held outdoors is not advisable because of the day's heat.
There are mid-afternoon wedding parties. These parties are not full meals and foods served are usually finger foods, sandwiches, cakes, tea, and wine. These are relatively light meals but it still is a party nevertheless. Venue for this type of party can range from a posh restaurant or hotel to a beautiful garden.
Early evening parties are held if the wedding is done in the mid afternoon. A full dinner is served during this party. Parties can range from low budget to elegant and expensive parties.
There are later evening parties for some couples who choose to wed in the evening. This party usually starts at 8 and cocktails are served. There is no full dinner therefore; it will be prudent to warn guests that it's a cocktail party and not a full dinner party so that they can eat ahead of time. This is not good if you know that guests you are inviting are children.
Later evening parties are not advisable if your wedding is on a weekday because some guests will still have to work the next day. It might disrupt their schedules. While if you have early evening parties, it is best to keep it short too for the same reason that guests might still have to work the next day.
As can be seen, there are different times to hold your wedding party. The time to hold the wedding party will depend on your theme and the time of your wedding ceremony. Be sure that you have fun and guests have fun as well.
